Gillespie Golf Club is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Gillespie Golf Course opened in 1941 as a nine-holer on 80 acres of rolling hill-country within one mile of the center of the city, at the intersection of Florida Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. In 1991 major alterations produced an additional set of tees which now provides an opportunity to play the golf course as an 18-holer.
This somewhat undulating course plays fairly short, but the greens are small and hard to hit in regulation. The wide-open fairways are tree lined. The main hazard is a tributary of the South Buffalo Creek, which meanders through the course, coming into play on eight holes. A mature tree canopy of oaks and native hardwoods along with 16 strategically placed bunkers add to the challenge.
Par for the course is 36. From the back tees, the course plays to 3,322 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 2,541 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 560 yards. The shortest hole on the course is #4, a par-3 that plays to 173 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 9, the 560-yard par-5 challenge is the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at The Gillespie Golf Course is # 4, the 173 yard par-3.
